If you have been following me for a while, you have probably noticed that I prefer splurging on classic handbags, shoes, knitwear and outerwear, but when it comes to basics such as jeans, shirts and trousers I favour purchasing those from high street stores.

My style is mostly uncomplicated and made up of neutral tones and sometimes black. The key (for me) when shopping for high street pieces is to stay within my colour palette and to keep my choices simple. In doing so, it minimises clashes, and the outfit looks more sophisticated and put together when paired with higher-end accessories and outerwear. High street stores I shop at are Zara, Massimo Dutti, Mango and H&M.

On the other hand, when it comes to higher-end accessories the pillars of my wardrobe, I prefer to pay more for classic handbags and shoes that I know won’t look dated in five, ten or fifteen years time. Similarly, with my outerwear and knitwear, I prefer spending more on wool/cashmere/camel coats and wool/cashmere sweaters that are in classic silhouettes that I know I can wear for many seasons to come. My favourite brand for outerwear and knitwear is Max Mara, I love the elegant and timeless pieces from this fashion house!

Do you mix and match high street and higher-end items? What do you prefer saving or splurging on?

Hello Steffy,
I would like to know if you will be creating a similar type of post as this one mixing high street and high-end for winter, spring, and summer seasons?
Love your posts. You have such amazing style.

I absolutely adore the white Max Mara turtleneck you are wearing on the first picture. Do you remember the name of the model? Thank you for the most wonderful blog and inspiration!

Hi Steffy
You are such an inspiration for me, I love your style. Is the light-pink skirt from a current Zara-collection?
Steffys Style says
Hi, the skirt is beige – I got it in March but I have seen on the Zara website that they have released it again for this season.

Both Cos and Arket are owned by the same group as H&M and & Other Stories. Both have good quality items – Cos is a bit more boxy and minimalistic, Arket more classic. Boden has some great things – their blouses quite often have french seams – they have a lot out there prints, but also have a lot of neutrals. Xxx

Thanks so much for sharing more details on those stores!

I love Max Mara for sweaters and coats too! And my favorite brand for jeans is Zara. Uniqlo and H&M are great for blazers and suits. I love your ability to mix and match different items and l really adore your style!

Thanks Francesca! I love Zara jeans and jeggings, always the best fit for me. Switzerland really needs a Uniqlo so many great items we are missing out on 😀

I may not be able to afford Chanel or Hermes (have been drooling over a Hermes Evelyn in a beautiful blue), but I do subscribe to spending more on coats, bags, shoes. I love Cos, Arket, Boden and good old M&S for high street items, but I also watch the sales for pricier items from Joseph, Dea Kudibal and Stine Goya. It makes sense to buy good quality shoes and coats – they’re probably the hardest working items in my wardrobe, although they’re rarely high end designer (doesn’t stop me appreciating them though).
Being petite poses it’s own problems too, as far as coats and blazers go, as most just end up looking oversized in the wrong way, so while I’d love a Burberry trench, I’ve invested in a J Crew one that is just as classic. Boden is great for petite items, I stay away from their statement prints and go for classic items.
I love your style, and even though I’m a true blue girl, I can be inspired by your tonal neutral wardrobe and translate it into my tonal blues.

Hi Sue! Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a very thoughtful comment.
I’ve heard great things about Cos, I need to look into them (wish their online store delivered to Switzerland there are only physical locations here). I’ve seen Joseph items on MatchesFashion and will be keeping an eye out on their knitwear this season! I also need to look into Boden, I have seen bloggers feature a few of their pieces on IG recently.
Thanks for sharing your favourite stores with me!
