Fall 10×10 Challenge

fall 10x10 challenge

This year I decided to try the fall 10×10 challenge that was originally started by Style Bee. The concept consists of using ten items of clothing from your wardrobe and mixing and matching it over ten days to come up with ten different outfits. You can include shoes and accessories as part of the ten items, but as a beginner, I struggled with this and opted to not include bags and shoes.

fall 10x10 challenge
Day 1: Max Mara Coat & Sweater, Zara jeans, Louis Vuitton mini pochette & Chanel ballerinas
Day 2: Zara suit, Max Mara Sweater & Chanel shoes & bag
Day 3: Zara shirt, Levi’s Jeans, Chanel bag & Gucci loafers

In the beginning, I thought this could be doable and fun, but halfway through, I struggled and lacked inspiration. I created ten different outfits, but the outfits were not very imaginative. I found I was changing up the top half and voilà a new outfit! The whole concept of the challenge is to be creative and find new ways to wear existing items in your closet, so with regards to that, I think I missed the mark.

Day 4: Zara blazer, Max Mara Sweater, Levi’s Jeans, Chanel bag & espadrilles
Day 5: H&M Cashmere Sweater, Zara trousers, Chanel bag & Dior kitten heel sling backs
Day 6: Weekend Max Mara Coat, Zara jeans, Chanel bag & Christian Louboutin boots

I think my weakness is that my wardrobe mainly consists of trousers and jeans. Someone who also wears skirts and dresses in their everyday life might have had more fun with the challenge and more diverse outfit options.

Day 7: Weekend Max Mara coat, H&M cashmere sweater, Levi’s jeans, Chanel bag & Dior sling backs
Day 8: Max Mara sweater, Zara blazer & jeans, Chanel bag & Nordstrom boots
Day 9: Zara trousers and shirt, Chanel bag & shoes

Nonetheless, the fall 10×10 challenge was a learning experience, and I might do it again next year with a midi skirt thrown in the mix perhaps?

Day 10: Max Mara coat & sweater, Levi’s jeans, Chanel bag & Nordstrom boots (tortilla suede)

What about you, have you tried similar challenges like this before? I would love to read about your experiences.

Hi! Just came across your blog and your IG! I LOVE your style. It’s so classy and beautiful! I’d love to see something like this post but for summer outfits! Are you in Europe? I just wondered because I noticed for some of your recent IG posts you’re wearing long sleeves and a coat so I wondered if maybe you’re in a cookout climate. I’m in the USA and we get all 4 seasons. 🙂
It’s So nice to discover your blog. I look forward to more posts!

Hi, I’m in Europe – we get four seasons as well 😉 Lately; however, the weather has been a bit all over the place hence coats one day and linen shirts the next. In general, though, I mostly wear long-sleeve shirts also in summer (thanks to overzealous air conditioning). But I will be sharing some weekend/off-duty casual summer outfits on IG or my blog soon 🙂

Hi Steffy I have never tried such a challenge but I think you did great! Maybe you felt a little boring along the challenge but I think that you should more look at the positive result of it. What I mean is that you were able to stress once again the importance of getting the most quality pieces in the most neutral shades (black and blue of course too) and mix them everyday. The message that comes from this experience to me is that if I invest in top quality pieces, I don’t need thousands of them! Just the right amount (maybe more then 10 lol) and enjoy them everyday.
Thank you Steffy for sharing this with us! Love from Lake Como
